Almost Six Months?? How the time flies right on by.
Our little bundle of joy is nearly six months old! My oh my how she has changed in such a short time. People are right when they say, "They grow up so fast!" She's not a helpless little baby anymore. While she still needs us for pretty much everything, she is so determined to try everything by her self. She is the wiggliest wiggle worm I have ever seen. Man, am I going to be in big trouble once she really starts moving. She is going to get into everything! She can't quite crawl, but she can roll around the room like nobody's business.
We started her on cereal last week despite the doctor's recommendation. Mom's intuition, I knew she was ready. She thinks her oatmeal cereal is the tastiest stuff she has ever had. Truth be told, it probably is! She opens her mouth when she is ready for the next bite, clearly telling us she knows what it is and that she really likes it. My heart still longs to be at home with her every day, but for now, working is a must. I can truly sympathize with other mommas who have to work. The general consensus on mom blogs and other social sites is that there are many many working moms seeking work at home positions. It just seems like there are so many scams out there. No one wants to give up their guaranteed paycheck for a job that will be hit or miss. Many have tried to get me to come over to direct sales, but I don't think I am ready to take that risk. It is a business that takes a while to start up and then there is no guarantee you will be a success.
Lastly, I got the mom bob. I went for it. Chopped my long hair off into a short, cute bob. I am still getting used to it as I look completely different. When I got home from getting my hair cut, Kaylin barely knew who I was. After 10 minutes she decided I was in fact her mommy. One things for sure, no more fists of hair are going to come out in that baby's hand!

This week was my first week back at work. Right now, I have to work full time and it is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. My first day back I was an emotional wreck. I know many other mommas out there have to experience the same thing. It's now Friday and while my heart still wants to be with my baby girl, I have some thoughts to share. I am thankful that I have a husband who watches our little girl during the day. He has loved spending more time with her. My ever so knowledgeable and insightful mom expressed the fact that this is time that they will get to bond together that they might not have had otherwise. We are so blessed that we have a friend in the neighborhood who is able to watch Kaylin during the time that my husband comes to work until I get home. She is a mom herself and knows a lot about soothing a grumpy child. She is gentle and sweet and sends me updates and pictures throughout the day.
Prior to going back to work:
I went a little crazy with notes and trial runs. Apparently this is totally normal. Our babysitter was very understanding and fully expected me to call 20 times to check up on Kaylin my first day back to work. Even though she probably already knew everything I was telling her, it made me feel better to reiterate everything. I put everything important that I felt she needed to know in a notebook for easy reference. A couple of weeks before I started back I did mini trial runs with my hubby. I wanted to make sure that he was confident in his ability to soothe the baby and take care of her on his own. I went and got my hair done and made a few doctor's appointments just to get out of the house for a couple of hours. Even if I was home with him, if Kaylin cried, I would let him tend to her. That way he had to figure things out but I was nearby just in case.
Things to help me while I am at work:
I have pictures posted EVERYWHERE in my office. It also helps when my husband and our babysitter sends me pictures. I call every couple of hours just to check in and they let me hear her sweet giggles and googoo-gaga's. Now, I just need to install a webcam on my office computer!
Bottom line is, it's not easy coming back to work full time. You have to do what's best for your family, even it means sacrificing in the beginning. It may be hard for me to handle, but if I know Kaylin is happy and well taken care of, I can get through it. The best part of my day is easily the second I walk through my door and get to see my precious daughter.

We Part Time Cloth Diaper and I'm Proud Of It!
When I was pregnant, I stumbled onto a forum about cloth diapers. I had no idea what I was getting into when I first began researching this topic unknown to me. It is a whole crazy world that I was about to dive head first into. Searching for cloth diapers quickly took over all of my free time on the Internet. It was my new guilty pleasure to find the best deals on diaperswappers. Not only would we save money, but I got to buy the cutest diapers you've ever seen!! I was in love. I started my stash with prefolds and covers. This is a cheap diapering system and very popular for newborns. I quickly discovered that this type of system was just not for us. I was able to swap these diapers for pocket diapers and AIO's and the rest was history. Diaperswappers is an incredibly valuable tool for moms. You can buy, sell and trade anything from diapers to maternity clothes. In my stash I have about 24 diapers. I wash my CD's every other day. I would like to add about 10 more diapers to my stash. I am already in the process of working on trades to move out the diapers that we do not use. I am still putting Kaylin in sposies at night and when we go on trips. I think we could go full time, but right now, sposies just seem like a safety net for me. I will say, I have never had a blow out in a cloth dipe. We have had about 3 in sposies. You do the math. I would recommend cloth diapers to anyone! Yes, you will make an initial investment and yes, you will end up doing more laundry. In my opinion, they are totally worth it. Don't buy just one kind of cloth diaper. Purchasing several different types of diapers will help you figure out what works for you and what doesn't. This is another great thing about diaperswappers. If you don't like one kind of your cloth diapers, you will most likely be able to find a mom who does and will trade with you for a different type of diaper. Everyone who sees our cloth diapers is shocked. They definitely aren't your grandmomma's cloth diapers!
Keeping Cloth Diapers Looking Like New
Cloth diapers are going to get dirty, that's just a fact. When I first got my diapers, they were so nice and white and pretty. Five ounces of breastmilk later and well, not so white. I was so upset that they were soiled! What did I expect? After reaching out to some other CD momma's, I found the cure all for stained diapers! Bac Out by Biokleen is absolutely amazing. Here is my secret formula. Fill a small spray bottle with 1/2 water and 1/2 Bac Out. Keep this by your diaper pail. When you have a soiled dipe, just spray a little bit of that solution onto the dipe before putting it in your pail. Then, when wash day comes, add a couple of squirts of pure Bac Out into your first rinse cycle. If you have any stubborn stains, just throw the dipe in the sun for a couple of hours. Waala! Your dipes will look brand new. You don't even have to catch the stain as soon as it happens. The Bac Out should still take your set in stain right out. This stuff is awesome!
